Brooks Institute offers four areas of study:     Visual Communications     Motion Picture/Video     Visual Journalism     Still Photography Visual Communications If the margins of your high school biology lab manual or your college French class notebook were filled with endless hours of doodling or if you review websites like a movie critic, then a career in the exciting field of visual communications may be just the avenue for you to showcase your creative talent. The Visual Communications program at Brooks prepares graphic designers to be capable of creating original artwork with a visual style, design and layout that is appropriate to the project's concept and goals. With the emphasis on digital skills, the program addresses the evolving nature of visual communications to a digital environment. The graphic design curriculum prepares graduates for this rapidly changing field with an up-to-date skill set that can make them readily eligible for employment in a field that is continuously redefining itself. Motion Picture/Video Brooks' comprehensive Film and Video curricula offer hands-on study of professional filmmaking and production techniques, everything from proposals and budgeting to scripting, directing and editing. The facility is located on approximately 8 acres, occupying about 70,000 square feet of work-space. Formerly a motion picture studio, the campus is complete with a back lot and fully equipped sound stages, one of which is 27,000 square feet. Teamwork is essential to film production, students share responsibilities as cinematographers, lighting and sound technicians, scriptwriters, and editors to complete a professional-quality project. Each student's portfolio production is treated as a real work situation, in which the student forms a production company and contracts to deliver the film. Visual Journalism Visual Journalism.... Photojournalism for the 21st century. The world of communication has become a world where audiences want storytelling brought to them in new ways. The photographer storyteller with multiple skills has the best chance of delivering the story to the audience they want to reach. That is why Brooks Institute has created a new non-traditional program using the name Visual Journalism. The photojournalist of yesterday must today be cross-trained in still cameras, computers and digital video cameras. That way the photographer can deliver a story or project to the traditional print media, to the Web and to the upcoming multi-cable environment. Still Photography Still photography courses are devoted to producing images which closely parallel actual on-the-job professional situations through photographic assignments. Upon completing the required Lower Division curriculum, students begin their chosen major. The Upper Division curriculum deals in-depth with the photographic major and supports individual elective courses. Students in still photography may choose from any one of six majors:
Advertising
Commercial
Digital Imaging
Digital Media
Industrial/Scientific
Portraiture
